Elever fra 7. og 8. klasse havde i dag præmiere på deres stykke “Vølvens spådom”, som gennem drama, musik og fortælling tager publikum med på en rejse ind i nordisk mytologi. Mange af skolens klasser overværede dagens forestillinger og i aften er det forældrenes tur.

Vi har de sidste 6 dage gået Manhattan tynd, vi har blandt andet været Downtown, hvor vi besøgte Chinatown samt 9/11 Monumentet, har også gået på The Highline, rundvisning på The Whitney i Meatpacking samt FN, og vi har været til morgenandagt i Saint Patricks Cathedral på 5th Avenue og ikke mindst gået lang tur i Central Park i det fineste solskins vejr. Mætte af indtryk og oplevelser rejste vi hjemad onsdag morgen.

Når man ikke kan være i skole på den normale måde, så må man finde på nogle nye måder at undervise eleverne på. På Institut Sankt Joseph gør vi alt for, at eleverne får så meget ud af online undervisningen som muligt, og at eleverne alligevel får en afvekslende skoledag. Det er jo hårdt at sidde foran en skærm hele tiden, ikke mindst for de mindste elever.

Eleverne i indskolingens 1i og 2i i bilingual afdelingen har arbejdet med emnet natur og materialer. Eleverne skulle arbejde med de materialer, som de havde mulighed for at få fat i og skabe noget kreativt ud fra emnet. Det blev til mange flotte modeller, bygninger og scenerier. Eleverne tog billeder af deres ting og sendte dem til deres lærer Peter Prasadam. Her ser vi nogle af dem.

On Friday the 21st of September ISJ competed in the International schools annual football Tournament. Which was hosted by CIS with teams from all over Denmark. The U16 team captained by Mateo from 9i after an initial set back in losing their first game came back to secure a place in the final and take the top spot! The U14 captained by Jair from 7i came in 3rd place. The U12 captained by Alex in 5i came in second place after winning all their group games but narrowly missing out in the final. All teams showed great resilience and team spirt and are looking forward to defending their record next year.

We took a trip today to visit Kronborg Castle and to see Hamlet Live! 8i are studying the play Hamlet in English class so our trip today was really great to spark their interest.

Film director and young girls from the poignant documentary In the Name of Your Daughter, visited students in 8.i to talk about their experiences with the practice of female circumcision in Tanzania.

The film addresses the issue of young girls fleeing their homes or being removed from their families if they refuse to be ’cut’. FGM – Female Genital Mutilation – is illegal in Tanzania. However, the practise continues to flourish all over the country and particularly in small villages where it is difficult for authorities to assert their influence or control FGM.

Families explain the brutal process as necessary to secure cattle as payment from men who want to marry their young, circumcised – and therefore, less promiscuous, they argue – daughters.

The courageous girls Neema and Rosie who visited ISJ, fled their families to a safehouse, where they live and are encouraged to go to school and to educate other young people about the dangers and illegal practice of FGM.

Neema and Rosie; Rhobi – the head of the safehouse; and film director Giselle Portenier made a great impression on 8.i who had the opportunity to ask questions about the girls’ lives and future. 8.i look forward to following the girls and staying in contact with them on social media.
