Here are some photos for English 7.i fagdag 12/10 2018. We went to Dyrehaven today were students were getting some inspiration for using sensory language to write descriptive text. It was a beautiful day.

On Friday the 21st of September ISJ competed in the International schools annual football Tournament. Which was hosted by CIS with teams from all over Denmark. The U16 team captained by Mateo from 9i after an initial set back in losing their first game came back to secure a place in the final and take the top spot! The U14 captained by Jair from 7i came in 3rd place. The U12 captained by Alex in 5i came in second place after winning all their group games but narrowly missing out in the final. All teams showed great resilience and team spirt and are looking forward to defending their record next year.

In 2.i, 3.i and 4.i we decided to celebrate the start of the winter season with an excursion to the Frederiksberg ice skating rink. The teachers had ensured perfect weather conditions ;-) Cold frosty air, but with no wind and lots of sunshine. It was wonderful to see and feel so much positive energy. It was a fantastic day, where all the children were mixing with each other and helping each other.

… and that’s why we went on a trip into inner Copenhagen. We went to the Round Tower, Rundetårn, where we could look out over the whole city. Afterwards, we went to Rosenborg Castle in the King’s Garden. The children got the chance to lift the tongue of the lion that guards the castle. It is said that the king used to leave his key under its tongue. We also witnessed the changing of the guard in front of the castle. We ate lunch in the lovely gardens and saw the tree that is said to have inspired Hans Christian Andersen to write The Tinderbox. A fantastic day with warm weather!

Today we started Civic Responsibility Presentations in 4.i English class, and students have done a wonderful job! Students researched an issue and then came up with a plan to do something about it. Activities ranged from giving food to homeless people to donating money to support environmental causes to picking up trash. Clearly students used their heart and heads in this project and world is a better place for it!

1.i. has had American student from DIS (Danish Institute of Study Abroad) Alyssa Pasch on an internship for the past few months. She has been working with integration/identity and language. As a final assignment, she designed a workshop for 1.a and 1.i during 1.a’s music lesson. Their activities all related to the senses- to hearing (the difference in length of time low and high tones can be heard), and listening to their own body (how the heart beats faster after motion vs. what their muscles feel like at rest). They also had an activity where they needed to draw on paper what their partner was drawing on their back. To finish off, the children sang ”Here comes the sun” together. The lesson was conducted in both Danish and English with good results. The children had fun and got to know each other a bit better.

While the rest of the school has been enjoying an in-depth theme week, 6i/7i have been taking exams. 13 students took the Progression tests for stage 7, and 8 students took the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Exams, which were administered at school but will be assessed in the UK.  The Checkpoint test marks the end of primary school in the Cambridge curriculum. We’re hoping for positive results for all the hard work put in by the students.

But it hasn’t all been hard with some excursions to Experimentarium City and the Circus museum, as well as local parks, to let off steam and have some fun together.

The Four Winds

On Thursday 17th March 2016, 1i, 2i and 4i attended a special concert at the Royal Danish Music Conservatorium in Frederiksberg. The concert was the culmination of a 5 week project by 200 grade 4 students in Frederiksberg Municipality along with professional musicians. Songs, stories and music were written to represent the green wind from Denmark, the dark wind from Syria, the gentle wind from Ghana, and the lonely wind from China. The result was a beautiful cultural mix of sounds and tales which carried the message of what children around the world wish for in their lives. We thoroughly enjoyed the performances!

0.i and 4.i are two new friendship classes and have already met a couple of times to get the project started. In Danish, 4.i recently wrote some fairy tales, which they came to read  to 0.i. Today the two classes went for a short walk nearby and had to identify what they saw. 0.i finished the activity by cutting and colouring the pictures of what they had seen. We have a little display of some of the things they have created together in the 0.i. classroom (lille krea) which you can see during SFO time.

Students in 2i and 3i celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8th. After seeing an informative clip about women’s inventions and the progress women have made in the last two hundred years, students talked about how the world could be better for both men and women. Students then worked together to make posters that illustrated how they wanted to make the world a better place. Ideas ranged from stopping war, giving fathers more time with children, making sure all women are respected, to making sure women are paid equal wages for their work. It was an inspirational day!

During the recent election in the UK, 3i were visiting London. There, they met reporters from Danish TV – DR Kanal Ultra. A programme featuring our students Loke and Zoey from 3i came out of this meeting. The two students interviewed people, asking questions regarding who and why they were going to vote for a specific candidate.
